Forrest J Ackerman

Industrialists, Publishers and Executives

Forrest J Ackerman (1916 to 2008) was an American magazine editor, writer and literary agent based in Los Angeles who did more than almost anyone to carry science fiction, fantasy and horror film fandom into the mainstream. He was the founding editor and principal writer of Famous Monsters of Filmland, the Warren Publishing magazine that introduced generations of young readers to classic monster movies and to the craft behind them. He also served as agent for authors such as Ray Bradbury and Isaac Asimov, helped shape organized science fiction fandom, co-created the comic character Vampirella, and appeared in many films and documentaries. His collection of genre books and film memorabilia was among the largest in the world, and he was honored with Retro Hugo awards for his fanzine work.
