The Unexpected is a 2022 American drama short film, the directorial debut of Remi Adeleke, running thirty-two minutes and released on YouTube on September 30, 2022. Based on true events, it tells the story of terrorism's link to human trafficking and organ harvesting through the perspectives of two victims, shot in August 2021 around Kansas City, Missouri standing in for Venezuela and Peru. The film premiered at the Cannes Market and drew attention for raising awareness of human trafficking; a feature-length sequel set five years later premiered at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival.
