CODA (2021 film)

CODA is a 2021 American coming-of-age comedy-drama written and directed by Sian Heder, an English-language adaptation of the 2014 French film La Famille Belier. It stars Emilia Jones as a hearing teenager who is the only hearing member of her deaf family and must balance helping the family's fishing business with her own ambition to become a singer, with deaf cast members performing the deaf roles in American Sign Language. It premiered at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival, where Apple acquired it for a festival-record 25 million dollars, and it won all three of its Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, becoming the first film distributed by a streaming service to win the award.
