Green Book

Green Book is a 2018 comedy drama directed by Peter Farrelly, inspired by the real 1962 concert tour of pianist Don Shirley through the Deep South with driver and bodyguard Frank Tony Lip Vallelonga. As the two men travel together, they rely on The Negro Motorist Green Book, a real guide to establishments that would serve Black travelers under segregation, and their initially uneasy working relationship develops into a genuine friendship over the course of the tour. Viggo Mortensen starred as Tony Lip and Mahershala Ali as Don Shirley. The film drew on interviews with both men and letters Tony wrote home during the tour, and it won the Academy Award for Best Picture at the 2019 ceremony along with Best Original Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor for Ali.
