The Magdalene Sisters

The Magdalene Sisters is a 2002 drama written and directed by Peter Mullan, a British Irish co-production shot entirely on location in Dumfries and Galloway in south west Scotland. It follows three teenage girls sent to a Magdalene asylum, a home for women labelled as fallen by their families or society and maintained by a Catholic religious order. The film won the Golden Lion at the 2002 Venice Film Festival.
