The Cult of Sincerity is a 2008 American independent film directed by Adam Browne and Brendan Choisnet from a script by Daniel Nayeri, set among Williamsburg, Brooklyn hipster culture. Its protagonist Joseph, thrown into crisis by his parents' divorce, tries to fight postmodern cynicism with sincere gestures and a search for a meaningful slogan, discovering that changing the world is harder than he expected. Released in full on YouTube on April 8, 2008, it was the first time YouTube had partnered directly with filmmakers for a film premiere, with funding arranged through the independent-music platform Amie Street and proceeds benefiting the charity Fount of Mercy.
