Crash is a 2004 American crime drama directed by Paul Haggis, examining racial and social tensions among a group of Los Angeles residents whose lives intersect over two days. Haggis based part of the story on his own experience of being carjacked in 1991. The ensemble cast includes Sandra Bullock, Don Cheadle and Matt Dillon. The film won three Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay and Best Film Editing, an upset over the favored Brokeback Mountain, and its Best Picture win has since been debated among critics.
