L.A. Confidential

L.A. Confidential is a 1997 American neo-noir crime thriller directed, produced and co-written by Curtis Hanson, adapted with Brian Helgeland from James Ellroy's 1990 novel, the third book in Ellroy's L.A. Quartet. Set among Los Angeles police officers in 1953, the film follows LAPD detectives navigating a case that exposes deep corruption within the department and its ties to Hollywood celebrity culture, its title referencing the real 1950s scandal magazine Confidential, fictionalized in the film as Hush-Hush. Produced by Regency Enterprises and the Wolper Organization, the film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May 1997, was released by Warner Bros. that September, and grossed 126.2 million dollars against a budget of 35 million dollars, winning Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actress (Kim Basinger) and Best Adapted Screenplay from nine nominations; the Library of Congress selected it for the National Film Registry in 2015.
