All the President's Men is a 1976 American film directed by Alan J. Pakula, dramatizing Washington Post reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein's real investigation into the 1972 break in at the Democratic National Committee's Watergate headquarters and the trail of evidence that eventually led back to the Nixon White House. The film deliberately emphasizes the unglamorous, incremental work of journalism, phone calls, anonymous sources and repeated dead ends, rather than dramatizing the political scandal itself, building tension from the reporters' patient verification of each new lead. It was praised as a rare Hollywood film to treat investigative journalism seriously and was selected for the National Film Registry in 2010 as culturally, historically and aesthetically significant.
