The Apartment is a 1960 American comedy-drama directed by Billy Wilder for the Mirisch Company, in which an insurance clerk lends his apartment to superiors for their affairs to advance his career, then falls for an elevator operator he does not realize is involved with his boss. Of its ten Academy Award nominations it won five, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay, and it is widely regarded as one of the greatest films ever made, appearing on rankings by the American Film Institute and Sight and Sound.
