Dr. Strangelove is a 1964 American and British film directed by Stanley Kubrick, a dark comedy in which a paranoid United States Air Force general orders an unauthorized nuclear strike on the Soviet Union, setting off a frantic and increasingly absurd effort by American and Soviet officials to recall the bombers before they can trigger a Soviet doomsday device. The film treats the machinery of Cold War nuclear deterrence as fundamentally irrational, satirizing military and political leaders through several roles played by Peter Sellers.
