Bonnie and Clyde is a 1967 American film directed by Arthur Penn, dramatizing the crime spree of Depression era outlaws Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker as they progress from small time robbery to a string of bank heists across the American South while evading law enforcement. The film broke sharply with the conventions of earlier American crime pictures by treating its outlaw couple with romantic sympathy and by depicting violence, including its notorious slow motion final ambush, with a graphic frankness that shocked many contemporary critics on release.
