Friendly Persuasion

Friendly Persuasion is a 1956 American film directed by William Wyler, adapted by screenwriter Michael Wilson from Jessamyn Wests 1945 novel, starring Gary Cooper, Dorothy McGuire and Anthony Perkins. Set during the Civil War, it follows a Quaker family in southern Indiana whose pacifist convictions are tested as the war reaches them. The film won the Palme dOr at the 1957 Cannes Film Festival and received six Academy Award nominations, though it won none of them.
