Mutiny on the Bounty is a 1935 American drama directed by Frank Lloyd for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, dramatizing the 1789 mutiny aboard HMS Bounty. The film follows Captain William Bligh's harsh command of a voyage to transport breadfruit from Tahiti to Jamaica, and Fletcher Christian's leadership of the crew's rebellion and flight to Pitcairn Island. It won the Academy Award for Best Picture and was the highest-grossing film of 1935, though it took no other Oscar that year; its three competing Best Actor nominations led the Academy to create the Best Supporting Actor category the following year.
