The Great Ziegfeld is a 1936 American musical drama film directed by Robert Z. Leonard, starring William Powell as theatrical producer Florenz Ziegfeld Jr. alongside Luise Rainer as Anna Held and Myrna Loy as Billie Burke. It follows Ziegfeld's rise in show business, from promoting the strongman Eugen Sandow at the 1893 Chicago World's Fair through creating the Ziegfeld Follies stage revues, to his financial ruin after the 1929 stock market crash. The film won the Academy Award for Best Picture at the 9th Academy Awards in 1937, along with Best Actress for Rainer and Best Dance Direction.
