World Television Day is an international observance held on 21 November each year. The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed the day through resolution 51/205 of 17 December 1996, in recognition of the growing role of television in world affairs. The United Nations describes it as a mark of the philosophy television represents, a symbol for communication and globalization in the contemporary world, rather than a celebration of the device itself.
