Cars is a Pixar Animation Studios franchise owned by Disney, launched with the 2006 animated film Cars, directed by John Lasseter and developed with Joe Ranft and Jorgen Klubien. Set in a world populated entirely by anthropomorphic vehicles, the original film was followed by the sequels Cars 2 in 2011 and Cars 3 in 2017. The franchise also produced the spin-off films Planes in 2013 and Planes: Fire and Rescue in 2014, made by the now closed Disneytoon Studios.
