Back to the Future

Back to the Future is a media franchise built around the 1985 American science fiction film directed by Robert Zemeckis and written by Zemeckis and Bob Gale, starring Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson, Crispin Glover and Thomas F. Wilson. The original film follows teenager Marty McFly, who is accidentally sent back from 1985 to 1955 in a time traveling DeLorean automobile built by his eccentric scientist friend Doctor Emmett Brown, and who must repair the timeline after inadvertently interfering with his own parents' courtship. Its success led to two theatrical sequels released in 1989 and 1990, an animated television series, a stage musical, video games, theme park attractions, comic books and extensive merchandise built around its time travel premise and iconic DeLorean time machine.
