Twin films

Twin films are motion pictures with the same or a similar plot, produced and released within a close span of time by two different studios. The phenomenon arises from causes including rival studios independently developing comparable scripts, industrial espionage or staff movement between studios, an identical screenplay circulated to multiple studios before being picked up, or several studios responding to the same topical event or anniversary. Notable examples include Deep Impact and Armageddon in 1998, both asteroid-impact disaster films, Dante's Peak and Volcano in 1997, both volcanic-disaster films, K-9 and Turner and Hooch in 1989, both buddy-cop films pairing an officer with a dog, and Olympus Has Fallen and White House Down in 2013, both White House terrorist-attack thrillers.
