Jack Nicholson (born 1937) is an American retired actor and filmmaker, widely regarded as one of the greatest screen actors of the twentieth century and often associated with charismatic rebels who push against social structure. He won Academy Awards for One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, As Good as It Gets and, in a supporting role, Terms of Endearment, and his twelve Academy Award nominations make him the most nominated male actor in the Academy history. Beyond acting he worked behind the camera: he wrote several films, including the Monkees vehicle Head (1968), and directed three, Drive, He Said (1971), Goin South (1978) and The Two Jakes (1990). His career began in Roger Cormans The Cry Baby Killer (1958) and he retired from acting after How Do You Know (2010). He received the AFI Life Achievement Award in 1994 and the Cecil B. DeMille Award in 1999.
