Sandra Bullock

Directors and Filmmakers

Sandra Bullock is an American actress and film producer who became one of the most bankable leading performers in Hollywood from the mid-1990s onward. She was noticed in the action film Demolition Man, broke through with the thriller Speed in 1994, and then built a career that moved easily between romantic comedy, drama and thriller, with films such as While You Were Sleeping, Miss Congeniality, The Proposal, The Heat and Bird Box. She won the Academy Award for Best Actress for playing Leigh Anne Tuohy in The Blind Side and was nominated again for Gravity, in which she played an astronaut stranded in space. She was named the world's highest-paid actress in 2010 and again in 2014, and through her company Fortis Films she has produced some of her own films and served as an executive producer on the sitcom George Lopez. Her career is a useful case in the Film and Media Atlas of how a star's commercial standing, producing work and range across genres shape what studios finance.
