Paul Czinner (30 May 1890 to 22 June 1972) was a Hungarian born British writer, film director and producer. Born to a Jewish family in Budapest, he studied literature and philosophy at the University of Vienna before working as a journalist, then dedicated himself to the film industry from 1919 onward. After fleeing Nazi persecution with actress Elisabeth Bergner, whom he married in 1933, Czinner settled in England, where he became known after World War II for directing filmed adaptations of operas and ballets, including Don Giovanni and Der Rosenkavalier.
