Marc Andreessen is an American software engineer and entrepreneur who, as a student in the early 1990s, co-created Mosaic, one of the first graphical web browsers capable of displaying images inline with text, which greatly widened public accessibility of the still-young World Wide Web. He went on to co-found Netscape Communications in 1994, whose Netscape Navigator browser became the dominant way most people accessed the web in the mid-1990s and helped drive the web's rapid growth as a mainstream media and communications platform. Andreessen later became a prominent Silicon Valley venture capitalist, co-founding the firm Andreessen Horowitz to invest in technology and media companies.
