An American media personality, formerly an MTV video jockey, who became one of podcasting's most visible early promoters in the mid-2000s. He founded PodShow (later Mevio) in 2005 and hosted the Daily Source Code podcast beginning in August 2004, work that earned him the nickname 'the Podfather.' Defining Contribution
The reading that credits the technologist over the popularizer: Dave Winer, an author of the RSS format, implemented the enclosure mechanism in 2000 that made podcasting technically possible, four years before Adam Curry's Daily Source Code (2004) or PodShow (2005). Ben Hammersley, not Curry, coined the word "podcasting" itself, in a February 2004 Guardian article. On this reading Curry's real and lasting contribution was popularizing and commercializing an already-invented format, which the nickname "Podfather" tends to blur into a stronger claim of invention than the record supports.
