Vin Sullivan

Vincent Sullivan (1911 to 1999) was an American comic book editor, artist, and publisher whose editorial decisions at National Allied Publications, the company that became DC Comics, helped establish the superhero genre. As editor he approved the debut of Superman in Action Comics number 1 in 1938 and personally drew the cover of Detective Comics number 1, which introduced the anthology title that would later feature Batman's debut. After leaving DC Comics in 1940, Sullivan founded Columbia Comics and later Magazine Enterprises, continuing to publish superhero and adventure titles until his retirement from the comics industry in 1958. In 1993 he received the Inkpot Award recognizing his foundational contribution to the American comic book industry.
