Frank Miller

Frank Miller is an American comic book writer, artist, and filmmaker, born in 1957, recognized as one of the most influential creators in the modern history of the comics medium. He gained wide attention for his run on Daredevil in the early 1980s before creating some of the defining graphic novels of the genre, including The Dark Knight Returns in 1986, a dark and violent reimagining of Batman late in his career, and Batman: Year One in 1987, which retold the character's origin. Miller's Sin City series, begun in 1991, combined stark black and white artwork with hardboiled crime storytelling and was later adapted into feature films that he co-directed. His visual style, drawing on film noir cinematography and Japanese manga, pushed mainstream American comics toward darker, morally ambiguous storytelling in the 1980s and helped establish the graphic novel as a serious literary and artistic format rather than only a children's medium.
