Isle of Dogs

Isle of Dogs is a 2018 stop motion animated film directed by Wes Anderson, set in a fictional near future Japanese city where an authoritarian mayor banishes all dogs to an offshore garbage dump called Trash Island after a canine flu outbreak, prompting a young boy named Atari to fly there alone in search of his own banished dog, Spots, with the help of a pack of stray dogs led by a reluctant leader named Chief. It was Anderson's second stop motion feature after Fantastic Mr. Fox and continued his meticulously detailed, symmetrically composed visual style applied to puppet animation. The film opened the Berlin International Film Festival, where Anderson won the Silver Bear for Best Director, and received an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature, though it also drew criticism over its handling of Japanese culture and its American human protagonist.
