Despicable Me is a 2010 American computer-animated film directed by Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud, and the first feature produced by Illumination Entertainment. It follows Gru, a longtime supervillain voiced by Steve Carell, who adopts three orphan girls to help carry out a scheme to steal the moon, only to grow emotionally attached to them, aided in his plans by his army of small yellow henchmen known as Minions. Its commercial success launched both Illumination as a major animation studio and the wider Despicable Me and Minions media franchise that followed.
