Ratatouille is a 2007 American animated film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures, written and directed by Brad Bird from a story he developed with Jan Pinkava and Jim Capobianco after joining the production in 2005 to revise Pinkava's original concept. Set largely in Paris, it follows a rat named Remy who dreams of becoming a chef and forms an alliance with a restaurant garbage boy, Alfredo Linguini, to cook at the establishment of the late chef Auguste Gusteau. The Pixar crew traveled to Paris for research and consulted professional chefs during development, and Michael Giacchino composed a score inspired by the city. The film grossed 623.7 million dollars worldwide and won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
