The Jungle Book is a 1967 American animated film produced by Walt Disney Productions and directed by Wolfgang Reitherman, loosely based on Rudyard Kipling's stories and notable as the last animated feature Walt Disney personally worked on before his death during its production. It follows Mowgli, a boy raised by wolves in the Indian jungle, as his friends the panther Bagheera and the bear Baloo try to persuade him to leave for the safety of a human village while the tiger Shere Khan hunts him. The film was a critical and commercial success on release, praised for its character animation and the Sherman Brothers' songs, and its lighter, more comic approach to Kipling's material shaped the style of Disney's subsequent animated features.
