Beauty and the Beast

Beauty and the Beast is a 1991 American animated musical film produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation and directed by Gary Trousdale and Kirk Wise, adapting the classic fairy tale of a young woman held at a cursed prince's castle. The film became the first animated feature ever nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture and the first to win the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy, marking a turning point in critical recognition of feature animation as a medium capable of prestige-level storytelling. It was also among the first films to make extensive use of Disney's Computer Animation Production System, most visibly in its computer-assisted ballroom dance sequence, and it became the first animated film to gross over 100 million dollars domestically in its initial theatrical release.
