The Emperor's New Groove

The Emperor's New Groove is a 2000 animated film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and directed by Mark Dindal, following a vain, self-centered Incan-inspired emperor named Kuzco, voiced by David Spade, who is transformed into a llama by his scheming former advisor Yzma, voiced by Eartha Kitt, and must rely on a kind-hearted peasant, Pacha, to reach his palace and reverse the spell before Yzma seizes the throne. The finished film was a substantially reworked, broadly comedic version of a much more dramatic project originally titled Kingdom of the Sun, whose troubled, widely documented production overhaul became notable in its own right within the animation industry. It received mixed-to-positive reviews and became a cult favorite for its fast, joke-driven tone, distinct from Disney's more earnest animated musicals of the period.
