Persepolis is a 2007 animated biographical drama directed by Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud, adapted from Satrapi's own autobiographical graphic novel of the same name, its title referencing the ancient Persian capital city. Rendered largely in stark black-and-white animation, it follows a young girl coming of age in Iran against the backdrop of the Iranian Revolution and the Iran-Iraq War, and her subsequent years abroad. It won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
