The Triplets of Belleville

The Triplets of Belleville is a 2003 animated film directed by Sylvain Chomet, an international co-production among France, Belgium, Canada and the United Kingdom told almost entirely without dialogue. Rendered in traditional hand-drawn animation with a distinctive ink-washed, crosshatched visual style, it follows an elderly woman and her dog as they search for her kidnapped grandson, a champion cyclist, with the help of three eccentric aging music hall performers. The film was nominated for two Academy Awards, for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song, becoming the first PG-13 rated film nominated in the animated feature category, and it built a lasting reputation for demonstrating that animation could carry the artistic ambition of prestige live-action cinema.
