Song of the Sea is a 2014 animated film directed by Tomm Moore, again produced by the Irish studio Cartoon Saloon following its earlier feature The Secret of Kells, drawing on Irish folklore about selkies, seal like beings who can take human form. It follows a young boy, Ben, and his mute younger sister Saoirse, who is gradually revealed to be a selkie herself, as they journey to save the mythical creatures of Ireland from a spell that is turning them to stone. The film received an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature.
