Frozen is a 2013 American animated musical fantasy film from Walt Disney Animation Studios, directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee and loosely inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale The Snow Queen. It follows Princess Anna of Arendelle, who sets out with the iceman Kristoff, his reindeer Sven and the snowman Olaf to find her estranged sister Elsa after Elsa's magical ice powers plunge their kingdom into an endless winter. The film grossed more than 1.28 billion dollars worldwide, finishing as the highest-grossing film of 2013 and, at the time, the fifth-highest-grossing film ever made, and it held the record for highest-grossing animated film until Disney's 2019 live-action Lion King remake surpassed it. It won the Academy Awards for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song, the Golden Globe and BAFTA for best animated film, and two Grammy Awards, and its song Let It Go became a cultural phenomenon in its own right, carrying the film's reach well beyond its original audience.
