Pinocchio

Pinocchio is a 1940 American animated musical fantasy film produced by Walt Disney and distributed by RKO Radio Pictures, loosely adapted from Carlo Collodi's 1883 novel The Adventures of Pinocchio. Its production was overseen by Ben Sharpsteen and Hamilton Luske, with individual sequences directed by Bill Roberts, Norman Ferguson, Jack Kinney, Wilfred Jackson and T. Hee, and its voice cast included Cliff Edwards as Jiminy Cricket, Dickie Jones as Pinocchio and Christian Rub as Geppetto. The film follows a wooden puppet who dreams of becoming a real boy and must prove himself brave, truthful and unselfish under the guidance of his conscience, Jiminy Cricket. Made on a budget of about 2.6 million dollars, it opened in February 1940 to disappointing box office, in part because World War II cut off its European market, and only became profitable through later theatrical reissues, eventually grossing some 164 million dollars over its lifetime. It won two Academy Awards, for Best Original Score and for the song When You Wish Upon a Star, and it is now widely regarded as one of the greatest animated films ever made.
