Corpse Bride is a 2005 stop-motion animated film co-directed by Mike Johnson and Tim Burton, set in a nineteenth century English village where a nervous bridegroom named Victor accidentally marries a dead woman named Emily after placing a ring on what he believes is a tree root, and is carried off to the colorful Land of the Dead before he can find a way back to his living fiancee. It was the first stop-motion feature Burton directed himself, after having previously only produced similar films, and it earned a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature as well as the National Board of Review award for Best Animated Feature in 2005, cementing stop-motion as a viable format for major studio animated features.
